"Independence Day", never merely "The Fourth"

I view this National Holiday as an opportunity to push back against the Left in the cultural political correctness war.
We don't depart friends on December 22 with a hearty, "Have a Merry Twenty-Fifth" or on Dec 28th with "Have a Happy First."
Independence Day connotes that we had to do something to be Independent.
We had to go to war. Brave men and women had to die for this miracle in human history called America to be. Men and women had to pledge their lives and fortunes to produce this aberration from the 5000 years of tyranny and slavery east of Eden.
So as Mike gamecock DeVine goes about the important religious work of providing BBQ tomorrow, he will correct all that wish him a happy holiday denoted by a digit.
He will declare the impending Independence of man from a King, Five lawyer Oligarchs, or any other despot. DeVine will eschew any old divine rights of tyrants in secular affairs even as he thanks God's providence for the Miracles of 1776 crossing the Delaware and the one in the City of Brotherly love the following decade.
Its Independence Day! Government by consent of the governed.

-ity (ON THIS!!), as it appears that our Founders may well have called it the Fourth themselves. Rather, I have simply seized upon the official name to fight the battle against historical ignorance and understanding.
I wouldn't want people to be self conscious around me....esp any good lookin' babes that could be candidates for #3!

Just maybe you might explain to a midwestern dude what religious rites are involved in providing BBQ. I know about praying before eating BBQ food. Is there a religious rite us midwesterners are missing out on?

For instance there's the dieciséis de septembre, which is their Independence Day, which would correspond to our "Fourth of July". And of course there Cinco de Mayo rather than the Battle of Puebla. And, back to the U.S., there's Juneteenth (shorthand for June 19th). Thus, it's not an anomaly to refer to an holiday by its date.
Also, given the state of the union today, referring to the "4th of July" does clarify that we're talking about the U.S. Independence Day rather than some other "Independence Day".
So, why don't we share a fifth on the Fourth and talk about Independence Day then...

You missed a comment I left for you, the one about fireworks.

that might work for our own Army if we could get past our uptight PC culture. Miss Russia Army is a real pageant and it was designed exactly for morale, which is to say, patriotism. This is from last year:

I never want to tell foreign friends what I think their country should do, but I really wish the Russian military would become more of a professional force. I understand the abusive military culture is left over from the imperial period, when it was always aristocrats in the officer corps and serfs as enlisted. I don't want to say much more about it here but they really need to purge all the old guard types whose thinking was behind the ordered human waves of fresh conscripts against Afghanistan veterans commanded by General Dudayev, in Chechnya. That was appalling.

...choosing this or that label is the epitome of political correctness. "July 4th" or "Independence day:" people either get what happened or they don't. Either people know the context or they don't. They've either learned their history or they haven't. Republican or Democrat. I don't agree with your division of terms. Today (EST) is about delving into why we are what we are, not about the red letters on the calendar, right?
And son of add, GC has TAUGHT the ignorant via this red letter method.

Would it be pedantic of me to point out that the 4th of July is actually not Independence Day? No, really. American Independence was officially declared on July 2, 1776, which means that our nation's birthday was two days ago. The final draft of the official Declaration of Independence was submitted for printing to Philadelphia printer John Dunlap two days later, and the signing ceremony took place about one month later, on August 2, 1776. Thus, the only thing that happened on the 4th of July was that the Declaration of Independence was printed.
